Let the countdown begin. Season 4 of “Outlander” has finished filming. To commemorate the end of shooting Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan sent fans a video message via the show’s official Instagram account. “Wake up! Cait, wake up!” says Sam. “Because…it’s a wrap! We finished!…You slept through the whole thing!”
The fourth season of “Outlander” is set to begin sometime in November on Starz. As the final episode of season 3 aired at the end of December last year, that has meant fans will endure a wait of almost a year to find out what will happen to star-crossed lovers Claire (Balfe) and Jamie (Heughan). While it has been agonizing, we can be grateful that the production schedule shaved a whopping five months off the nearly year-and-a-half gap between seasons 2 and 3.
There will be 13 episodes in this upcoming season which is based on “Drums of Autumn,” the fourth of eight books in the best-selling series. We know that the reunited Claire and Jamie have been shipwrecked off the Georgia coast in 1766. Happy to be out of Scotland, the pair begin a new life in the colonies.
Balfe, Heughan and company spent almost a year filming season 4 in both Scotland and various locales in eastern Europe. The latter served as substitutes for the mountains and rivers of the American colonies.
