During Monday’s live episode of “The Voice” Season 15, soul singer SandyRedd of Team Jennifer Hudson performed “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” for America’s votes. This week’s Top 13 theme was “Dedications,” so SandyRedd announced that she was dedicating her performance to her mother who died of cancer. Do you think SandyRedd will advance to next week’s Top 11? Blake Shelton started the critiques by saying, “Hi SandyRedd. You know what? I love seeing that emotional side and I love JHud’s advice to you to keep in touch with that while you’re performing and don’t try to suppress that and hold it back, let it come out in your performance. You’re such an incredible singer. The low register of your voice is amazing. Great job.”
“Everything Blake just said,” Jennifer declared while she was still taking in SandyRedd’s emotional performance. “It’s like a gift to be able to go that low. As a female vocalist it’s something extremely special. I was happy to hear it and I wanted to hear more of it. It brought us more and more in. It took us to the depth of your hurt, so that was a powerful thing.”
Prior to this performance of “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday,” SandyRedd sang “River” in the blind auditions, “Cry To Me” in the battles, “Dangerous Woman” in the knockouts and “No More Drama” in the Top 26.
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about the live performance: “We’re sticking with Team Jennifer, this time it’s SandyRedd‘s turn to perform, dedicating ‘It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye’ by Boyz II Men to her mother who died of cancer. It’s the first power ballad we will have heard from her so I’m excited to see how it goes. On stage, she looks angelic in a flowing white gown. Her lower tone is so unique and I’m sure it’s not for everyone but I absolutely adore it. The passion is just bursting through her skin whenever she sings. I know this vocal performance is going to be divisive and she could very well be in trouble, but I think she’s fantastic! By the end she was in tears.”
