Sean and Kaycee started “World of Dance” season 2 with a bang. They stood out during the season premiere with a Qualifiers routine that scored 96, the highest of any Junior Division competitor. But then the hip-hop teens landed in the middle of the pack during the Duels and the Cut. Were they able to get back to the top of the judges’ scoreboard during the Divisional Final where they faced Jaxon Willard and Charity and Andres? At the very least, guest judge Misty Copeland thought their routine was pretty “sexy.” Watch it above.
They were the last act to perform in the Divisional Final, so the pressure was on. They danced to Bishop Briggs‘s “The Way I Do,” with the stage designed in a desert motif, but it culminated with a quenching rain shower that doused the performers at the end of the routine. “You’re savage,” said Jennifer Lopez, who appreciated their effort to “push the envelope creatively.” Ne-Yo thought it was one of their “best performances.” Copeland was “blown away” in addition to making bashful Sean blush by calling the routine sexy.
It came down to the wire. Charity and Andres had performed a regal and acrobatic routine that suggested “Game of Thrones” by way of Cirque du Soleil, and they did it even while Charity had a broken toe. They scored 93, while Sean and Kaycee scored 92.3. Lopez actually gave Sean and Kaycee the higher score, but overall the gifted teens missed out on the World Final by less than a point. Did you agree with that outcome, or should Sean and Kaycee be the ones on their way to dance for $1 million?
