Monday night on “The Voice,” soul singer Sharane Calister represented Team Adam Levine during the live Top 12 episode of Season 14. Sharane chose to perform Shawn Mendes‘ “In My Blood” because it represents what it takes to overcome struggles in her life, even if she has to do it all by herself. Do YOU think that Sharane will advance to the next round on NBC’s reality TV singing competition? Watch “The Voice” performance video above.
“It’s so hard sometimes to figure out what leads to success or what makes one singer better than another,” Adam enumerated about Sharane. “I don’t know if I even believe in that, in a way. You could have all the skill and talent in the world and still not have that thing that you have, which is the ability to really make people understand that you’re telling the truth when you’re singing. I think a lot of people focus on the wrong things when it comes to singing.”
Adam continued on, “The only thing within reason that I care about is what you have in spades, which is the ability to actually get us to come with you on the journey that you’re on and believe what you’re saying. That’s the most important thing about singing right there. So as far as I’m concerned, you have it all, it’s perfect.” Sharane, Rayshun LaMarr and Jackie Verna are the last three artists remaining on Team Adam.
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger John Benutty noted, “This is a great song for Sharane because it gave her a huge chorus to erupt into that really showed her power. It was also a really smart choice to have her alone on stage without a band because she commanded it like she’s already a pop star. She sounded a lot like ‘American Idol’ winner Jordin Sparks here so I think she’s on the right path in the competition.”
