Close-up magician Shin Lim gave his Finals performance during Tuesday night’s “America’s Got Talent” and once again wowed the judges and the Dolby Theatre audience. Shin asked Tyra Banks to assist him on stage, and after the host randomly chose the nine of hearts, he magically made dozens of that same card appear in various different ways. Will Shin be named the winner of “AGT” 2018? Watch the “Americas Got Talent” performance video above, read the judges’ comments below, and then make your predictions before Wednesday’s Season 13 finale.
Simon Cowell: “Oh my God, Shin. I mean, oh my God. You have been consistently great. I had one criticism about you throughout the competition, which was your lack of showmanship. Tonight, thank God, you proved me wrong. It was an amazing act — the whole presentation from the piano to the cards, seeing something I’ve never seen in my life. This was so good, Shin. You know what? You could actually win the competition. It was amazing.”
Howie Mandel: “I agree with everything that Simon just said. That was a $1 million act. This is worthy of your own show in Las Vegas. You took something so small and made it so huge and so effortless and so sexy. I’m okay with my manlyhood. You’re very sexy. I loved everything about this. This is a winning act, there’s no more to be said.”
Mel B: “Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. I mean, let’s think about it. Tyra, you could have picked any card, any number. I’m just saying, it could have been anything that you picked and you made a whole entire act based off what Tyra picked. I can’t explain it in any other way apart from that was pure magic. I do believe it exists and you just proved that point. It does exist. Well done.”
Heidi Klum: “Shin Lim, you definitely are one of the best close-up magicians that I have ever seen. Not only on this stage here at ‘America’s Got Talent,’ but in the world. Nothing would make me happier than if you get that million dollars tomorrow!”
In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about the performance: “We found out tonight that Shin Lim‘s first passion was actually classical piano. After a bout with carpal tunnel syndrome, Shin gave up piano to focus on magic. He believes he made the right choice and is determined to show America he deserves to win. Shin then began his act playing the piano in front of a haunting a backdrop. He then spoke about his carpel tunnel in his act before launching into his mesmerizing tricks. He ignited his sheet music to reveal a deck of cards and then walked over to his favorite assistant, Tyra. I’m baffled by what this guy can do at such close range. And I love how he dramatically runs his fingers through his hair and gazes into the camera. He’s a superstar in the making and I predict he’ll be headlining in Vegas whether he wins this season or not. Where are all these 9 of Hearts coming from? How does he do this stuff? Howie was on his feet before the act ended and soon the other judges followed. This guy could win!”
