Close-up magician Shin Lim returned to “America’s Got Talent” during the Semifinals 1 episode, but did he listen to Simon Cowell‘s previous instructions and “move away from the cards” this time around? Thankfully not. In fact, Shin went all-in on the playing cards and even included Tyra Banks and Heidi Klum in his eye-popping magic tricks that included making their cards disappear and reappear at random. Was it enough for him to advance to the “AGT” Finals? Watch the “Americas Got Talent” video above, read the judges’ comments below, and then make your predictions before Wednesday’s results show.
Simon Cowell: “For anyone who says they don’t believe in magic, hello! That wasn’t a trick, because you girls were sitting there with him. We were watching things go from your bum to your mouth. I mean, it was actually incredible. And I’ll tell you why you were better this time around, is that your whole presentation was better, from your intro, it was more dramatic, the music was better, it was eerie. But what you do itself is sensational. And you look like a star as well.”
Howie Mandel: “Well, first of all, you need to be in the Finals. America’s gotta vote. The whole time he’s up there it’s like, how does he do that with the card? How does he do it with the marker? How does he do that with his hair? We don’t know! You are truly amazing. You are top of your game. YouTube can’t be wrong. I’ve been watching you on YouTube. You’re just the most amazing close-up magician I’ve ever seen.”
Mel B: “You had me at the word go. I was trying to figure it out. I was saying to myself, are my eyes actually seeing what I’m seeing? And yes, I witnessed true, classy, mysterious magic and I loved it.”
Heidi Klum: “First of all, I want to thank you for picking me so I could really see it super up close. It was absolutely insane. I really feel you will be a household game like David Blaine or David Copperfield or Houdini. Shin Lim, I can see it in Las Vegas.”
In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the performance: “Magician Shin Lim used both Heidi and Tyra as assistants for his card trick tonight. In the trick he had Heidi write her name on a random card in a deck which he then used in a series of slight of hand movements to produce the card out of his mouth! He then had Tyra write his name on a card for another series of disappearing and reappearing tricks. From their up close position Tyra and Heidi were flabbergasted by the magic, but even Mel, Simon and Howie were blown away. Simon called the act ‘sensational,’ noting that this time his presentation was better than he’s been before and that it made his overall act much better.”
