“Dancing with the Stars: Juniors” ended its inaugural season with a set of Christmas-themed freestyle dances that turned out to be a day at the beach — for Sky Brown at least. The skateboarding prodigy danced to “Underneath the Tree” by Kelly Clarkson, but in Brown’s case it was a palm tree decorated in bright lights. Watch her performance above.
Brown performed two routines during the finale, and it turned out she saved the best for the last episode. She started the night by performing a reprise of her week one salsa, this time with her adult mentor Alan Bersten joining her and her pro partner JT Church. Brown and Church weren’t alone for the freestyle dance either: in that case they were joined by a group of “Juniors” troupe dancers who held Brown aloft on a surfboard.
“You not only talk the talk, but you walk the walk. Excellent job,” said judge Mandy Moore about Brown’s final performance. Adam Rippon added, “You really are what this show is all about … you are a real hero to a lot of little girls.” And Val Chmerkovskiy was moved by how she danced with “heart.” She got 10s across the board from the panel, giving her a total of 30 out of 30. She got a perfect 30 for her first dance of the night too. Those were actually the first perfect scores she got all season, but if there’s a right time to peak, it’s the season finale.
Indeed, those two perfect performances helped Brown clinch the season one “Juniors” championship, leaving her rivals Miles Brown, Ariana Greenblatt and Mackenzie Ziegler out in the cold. Did you think the judges and studio audience voters got it right? Vote in our polls below.
