Cole Mills tried to make a comeback on “So You Think You Can Dance” during the third week of live shows. The judges loved both of his duets with his partner Hannahlei Cabanilla, including a cha cha choreographed by “Dancing with the Stars” pros Emma Slater and Sasha Farber that was the “sexiest” that judge Vanessa Hudgens had ever seen (watch it above). And a shirtless Mills made judge Twitch feel the need to go back to the gym.
But despite the rave reviews from all four judges, Mills wasn’t able to bridge the gap with the viewing audience. Though Cabanilla was safe, Mills landed in the bottom four based on America’s votes. Darius Hickman was also in the bottom four, but Hickman has been so consistently good that the judges couldn’t bear to see him go, so they gave Mills his walking papers along with Magda Fialek. Mary Murphy: “Thank you, Emma and Sasha, welcome back to the show. That was actually quite a different cha cha. It was … really dramatic. Thank you for that new trick. I have never seen that: back and go into a snake around the leg — that entry into it I have never seen, and I think a lot of us have seen almost everything. To come with something new is incredible. Cole, you are dominant tonight in this routine, and of course it is your style but I think that was the best you’ve ever danced. And Hannahlei, your leg action just keeps getting better and better, and that’s why you can move those hips so wonderfully. Congratulations, I thought you guys were hot, hot, hot!”
Nigel Lythgoe: “Yes [Hannahlei], your hips … If you were worried about that, you needn’t have worried at all. Cole, this has been your show tonight. Both routines you’ve been in tonight I think you’ve danced brilliantly, so congratulations.”
Vanessa Hudgens: “I honestly think that was the sexiest cha cha I have ever seen in my life. It was insane. Your connection, the lines you created, it was just … whew!”
Twitch: “Cole, I’m about to go to the gym immediately. Awesome job, y’all.”
