‘So You Think You Can Dance’ finale predictions: Our readers say Jensen WILL win, but Hannahlei SHOULD win

Season 15 of “So You Think You Can Dance” has been especially close, but a winner will be crowned on Monday night. Viewers voted for America’s favorite dancer, and it’s between four finalists: Jensen Arnold, Hannahlei Cabanilla, Genessy Castillo and Slavik Pustovoytov. But who our readers are predicting isn’t the same as who they’re rooting for.

As of this writing Arnold is our front-runner to win with leading odds of 8/11. Those odds are based on the combined forecasts of Gold Derby users who have entered our predictions contest, and more than half of them are placing their bet on Arnold, the middle sister in a family that’s starting to look like a dance competition dynasty. Her older sister Lindsay Arnold is a past “SYTYCD” contestant and a recent Mirrorball champion on “Dancing with the Stars.” And their little sister Rylee Arnold is making her competitive TV debut as a pro on “Dancing with the Stars: Juniors” this fall.

But we also polled our readers to find out who they think should win tonight, and the answer was quite different. Out of thousands of readers who responded, a leading 48 percent said Cabanilla deserves the title, with Arnold finishing second with 30 percent of the vote. Since tonight’s winner is based on the votes of “SYTYCD” fans at home — just like our informal poll — could that mean Cabanilla is the real front-runner, and we’re foolishly underestimating her in our predictions?

The judges have had nothing but praise for both women over the course of the live shows, and neither of them were ever among the dancers at risk of elimination in previous weeks when results have been announced. So if this is indeed a two-way race for the season 15 championship, which way will it go?
