“So You Think You Can Dance” welcomed back a half dozen all-stars on Monday night when the Top 6 performed for a spot in the final four. Those all-stars had all made the final four in their respective seasons as well, giving this year’s contestants a lot to live up to. But current season 15 front-runner Jensen Arnold had no trouble keeping up with season 14 finalist Kiki Nyemchek, who last year earned the nickname Daddy Kiki for his sexy Latin dance style. Watch their duet above.
Arnold and Nyemchek are both Latin dance specialists, so they were given a cha cha to perform by yet another “SYTYCD” all-star (and reigning “Dancing with the Stars” champion), Jenna Johnson. It was a milestone for Johnson as well as it was the first routine she ever choreographed for a “SYTYCD” live show. And her dancers didn’t let her down.
“We’re so proud of you,” said judge Mary Murphy to rookie choreographer Johnson. “And of course we like to have a little Kiki around. It was great to see both of you in your styles tonight … [Arnold’s] fast and furious footwork was amazing.” Nigel Lythgoe loved that Johnson’s choreography had “softened” Arnold in certain areas because “the resulting impact of the stronger and sharper stuff is greater … You’re getting better and better every week.” And Twitch thought they set the stage “on fire.”
Going into this week’s live show Arnold was our front-runner to win the season, so it came as little surprise when she was the first contestant announced as having earned one of the four spots in the finale, followed by Slavik Pustovoytov, Hannahlei Cabanilla and Genessy Castillo. But those finalists were not necessarily announced in order of their votes, so that doesn’t necessarily mean she’ll be America’s favorite dancer when all is said and done. Nevertheless, joining forces with Daddy Kiki sure didn’t hurt.
What did you think of Arnold’s performance? Vote in our poll below to let us know if you think she should win season 15 of “SYTYCD.”
