Slavik Pustovoytov and Genessy Castillo have such great chemistry on “So You Think You Can Dance” that the judges just can’t stop wishing they were dating. On Monday night when the Top 8 performed they kept on shipping the young dancers. Nigel Lythgoe even asked them if they had any announcements to make after their fellow contestant Jensen Arnold celebrated her own engagement in recent weeks.
Pustovoytov and Castillo have been cagey about their relationship status, which is understandable since they’ve only been dancing together for a few weeks and they’re both, you know, teenagers. A nationally televised reality competition would be an awkward place for anyone to publicly announce a relationship — unless you’re on “American Idol” that is.
For now these two should probably focus on the competition at hand since they’ve both gone from underdogs to possible front-runners. And while Pustovoytov was safe this week, Castillo just landed in the bottom four, so their position going into next week’s Top 6 show might be precarious. What do you think? Watch their Ray Leeper-choreographed jazz routine above, and read the judges’ comments below.
Nigel Lythgoe: “I thought that was a great Ray Leeper routine — great choreography, great concept. You both worked very hard at it. You’ve got the best chemistry on the show for me. I know that Jensen told us all that she was engaged now, and I wondered if you guys wanted to tell us [something] … I just want to tell you both that you were fabulous in that routine … I loved those windmill arms.”
Vanessa Hudgens: “Can I do housework like that? That’s my question. My heart is literally in thousands of pieces in my body because it has exploded. That was so incredible, you guys. And Slavik, I honestly wish I had your confidence and commitment in things that are outside of my comfort zone. That’s so inspiring.”
Twitch: “I’ve got to say to Slavik, along this journey make sure that as excited as you’re getting, just stay on beat. You were a little ahead of the beat, you know what I’m talking about. And again, it’s at this point in time in the competition that we really have to start getting nitpicky. So with that make sure that you stay on beat. I know you’re really excited to get into it, but stay in the music … [As a former contestant] I’ve literally had to dance my heart out and walk up to that exact point next to you, [Cat Deeley], and Nigel was like, ‘No.’ Just a one word critique: ‘No.'”
Mary Murphy: “Did it work? Yes it did!”
