Slavik Pustovoytov was in a tough spot going into the final cuts on “So You Think You Can Dance.” The hip-hop dancer certainly had the moves, but he struggled to learn choreography, even in his own specialty. So he had more to prove than most in his attempt to impress the judges and qualify for the live shows. He was one of the top 10 men this season, but only five men would move forward. Was he good enough to advance?
The street dancer was put to the test with a routine outside of his comfort zone: a jazz duet with “SYTYCD” all-star Allison Holker. Read what the judges had to say about his performance below.
Vanessa Hudgens: “I feel like I saw a new, passionate side — ooh, I’m getting eyes! That was pretty sexy dancing there.”
Mary Murphy: “It was so darn believable. Your connections and your ability to partner her was outstanding. You’re blowing my mind a little bit right now — blowing my mind!”
Nigel Lythgoe: “Slavik, it was a really great job at a time I think you needed to do a really good job. Well done.”
Ultimately the last spot in the top 10 came down to Slavik and fellow hip-hop dancer Kyle Bennett Jr. The judges struggled with their decision but ultimately gave the nod to Slavik along with four other men: Evan DeBenedetto, Jay Jay Dixonbey, Darius Hickman and Cole Mills. Did the judges get it right? And which man are you rooting for the most going into the live shows?
