Monday night on “The Voice,” country singer Spensha Baker represented Team Blake Shelton during the live Top 10 episode of Season 14. For Challenge Week, Spensha decided to take on Taylor Swift‘s pop song “Red” because it reminded her of the time she had a promising gospel career and then it disappeared overnight. “First of all, that was your best performance so far on the show,” declared Blake after her performance. “What I was thinking in that moment was, you’re gonna make country music history. You’re going to be a star in country music. I know it in my heart. And I can’t believe that I got to be a little bitty tiny part of it. I’m so excited for you. This is unbelievable.”
Spensha’s other performances on “The Voice” so far have included “Blackbird,” “I Could Use a Love Song,” “Broken Halos,” “I Still Believe in You,” “Smoke Break,” “Down on My Knees” and “Better Man.” How does “Red” stack up to her other songs? Let us know down in the comments section. Blake’s current team consists of Spensha, Kyla Jade and Pryor Baird.
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger John Benutty noted, “This is absolutely the kind of music that she needs to be making — she hasn’t sacrificed the country aspect, but with a pop melody her voice reaches for a more dynamic space that sounds so good. I really enjoy the deep tones of her voice that came through on the chorus and when she drops down for the breathy moments it’s just as interesting.”
