‘Survivor: Ghost Island’ episode 7 recap: Was Malolo’s losing streak finally broken in ‘Gotta Risk it For the Biscuit’? [UPDATING LIVE]

Who was voted out in Wednesday’s seventh episode of CBS’s “Survivor: Ghost Island”? Heading into the episode, the Malolo tribe had a lot to prove as they hadn’t won a single challenge since way back in Episode 3. However, the four current tribe members — Michael Yerger, Desiree Afuye, Kellyn Bechtold and Angela Perkins — tried to “reverse the curse” by burning their tribe flag. Did their controversial act appease the “Survivor” gods? And were Gold Derby’s predictions correct that Bradley Kleihege went home this week?

7:59 p.m. – “Previously on ‘Survivor’!” During last week’s sixth episode the two tribes were mixed up and redistributed into three tribes: Malolo, Naviti and Yanuya. Malolo lost once again, resulting in the elimination of James Lim. Michael now stands alone on his tribe against three original female Naviti allies, so if Malolo loses again he’ll need a miracle in order to survive another week. Let’s see how it all plays out!

8:01 p.m. – Feeling like his back against the wall, Michael woke up the morning after tribal council to go searching for an idol. The women back at camp knew what he was up to and that just confirmed for them that he’s on the outside and that he’s their target. While they sat back at camp, Michael found exactly what he was looking for–a hidden immunity idol! The idol he found was the fake one that Ozzy Lusth hid on “Micronesia,” but now it’s a real one. This is huge for Michael now that he’s one of only a couple original Malolo players still in the game.

8:05 p.m. – For tonight’s reward challenge, the tribes compete in a stacking and balancing act for their chance at a kebob lunch. In addition, the tribe that wins first will get to pick one player from either of the other tribes to go to ghost island.

8:07 p.m. – The Naviti tribe is the first to finish their stack of blocks, but it falls as they attempt to balance it. Yanuya follows behind finishing their stack, but also drops and then Malolo experiences the same thing, evening the playing field again. Yanuya is the first tribe to get back in the lead, but Naviti attempts a different strategy and passes them up to successfully win first place! With Malolo still struggling, Wendell Holland puts the finishing touches on the Yanuya stack and earns second reward!

8:10 p.m. – For taking first place, Naviti gets to choose who goes to ghost island. Again, they have to reach the decision unanimously and for the first time in a long time, they do. In order to keep the secret of ghost island under wraps they choose to send Kellyn back for the second time.

8:15 p.m. – On Kellyn’s first trip to ghost island she declined the risk to earn an advantage, trusting her gut that she couldn’t sacrifice her vote at the next tribal council. This time she yet again gets to risk her vote in order to try for 2/3 of a chance at an advantage. This time she trusts her gut again and decides to play the game–and in the log she chooses she finds the “steal a vote” advantage that got Michaela Bradshaw voted out in “Game Changers.” However, Kellyn’s advantage isn’t a vote steal, it’s a double vote instead.

8:18 p.m.Donathan Hurley is in high spirits during their reward feast after being instrumental in the day’s challenge. Unfortunately for him and the rest of the tribe, Bradley’s bossy attitude takes center stage and rubs everyone the wrong way. Despite the original Naviti numbers advantage on the new Naviti, Domenick Abbate considers voting Bradley over Donathan or Libby Vincek.

8:22 p.m. – As the rest of his tribe naps after their reward lunch, Wendell used the opportunity to go on his own search for a hidden advantage. While walking around the beach he finds an odd looking tree and sure enough under a piece of bark is a map clue to an idol! With the map he searches some more and quickly finds the immunity necklace that Erik Reichenbach gave away to Natalie Bolton on “Micronesia” the same night they voted him out. On this season the necklace is a legitimate hidden idol and now it’s Wendell’s! Wow. That is the third advantage discovered in this episode alone!

8:28 p.m. – Staying on trend, the Malolo tribe (minus Kellyn because she’s still on ghost island) decides to “reverse the curse” on their tribe and burns the Malolo banner on their flag. That leads straight into tonight’s immunity challenge, perhaps foreshadowing that they’ll finally win? Let’s see.

8:30 p.m. – For the challenge, the tribes will retrieve floating rings in the water that they’ll use to hook on a target. The first two tribes to hook all three of their rings will be safe and the losing tribe heads to council to vote someone out.

8:32 p.m.Sebastian Noel gets Yanuya off to a strong start, setting Chris Noble up to almost lap the other two tribes on his trip out afterward. After Kellyn gets Malolo’s first rings, Michael makes the second trip and takes second place, overtaking Naviti that had previously been ahead of them.

8:34 p.m. – Yanuya is the first to start tossing rings and Wendell gets a hot streak getting five of their rings hooked in quick succession. At that point the other two tribes get to three rings with tosses from Donathan and Michael, but as Donathan starts to struggle Michael finishes it up for Malolo, joining Yanuya with immunity! Malolo’s banner burning actually reversed the curse, meaning Michael (and his new idol) live to see another day!

8:42 p.m. – After losing the challenge, Domenick apologizes for losing steam after the swim and immediately Bradley cuts him down by telling him he probably had too much coffee. It’s statements like that that have put the rest of his alliance off to Bradley and is compelling them to turn on him tonight. Bradley’s perspective however is that Libby is more deceptive than she lets on and should be the vote tonight.

8:51 p.m. – As with previous tribal councils, the conversation centered around whether or not original tribal alliances would stick together and if that means that tonight’s vote is between Donathan and Libby. From there the conversation turns to Libby’s vote against her friend Morgan Ricke earlier in the season, but Libby points out that she remained loyal to her original alliance in that vote and that going forward she can be a loyal member of any alliance that welcomes her in.

8:56 p.m. – With none of the many advantages in the game used tonight, Jeff reads the votes: Libby, Bradley, Bradley, Bradley. That’s enough and with that the Malolo tribe did more than reverse the curse of their immunity losses, but it seems they also reversed the curse of original Malolo members being voted out! Bradley is only the second original Naviti member to be voted out of the game.
