There was a twist on “Dancing with the Stars” when it came to assembling the two teams faced off on Country Night. The team captains were actually the lowest scoring contestants in the competition thus far: Joe Amabile oversaw Team Joe Down and Bobby Bones led Team Hay Now. After they picked their teammates it was Bones who made the most hay. Watch them above, and vote in our poll below to let us know who you think gave the best performances this week.
Country Night was particularly special for Bones since it’s the closest to his heart. His claim to fame is country music radio, so he was already well acquainted with the music of the night and the special guests who took the stage to perform. And his team dance to Dolly Parton‘s “9 to 5” seemed thoroughly infused with his outsize personality, so even though he and his teammates weren’t exactly evenly matched — from low-scorers Bones and John Schneider to high-scorers Evanna Lynch and Milo Manheim — they managed to dance as a cohesive unit.
Judge Len Goodman “loved the song, loved the performance, loved the choreography.” Bruno Tonioli called it a “country triumph … The balance between the ensemble and the individuals was brilliant.” And Carrie Ann Inaba thought they all “nailed it,” but singled out Bones as the team’s MVP. I don’t know if I’d go that far, but he did marshal his team to perfect 10s from Inaba and Tonioli and a 9 from Goodman.
That gave them a grand total of 29 out of 30, three points better than their rivals, which boosted all four team members on the night’s overall leaderboard, securing the top two slots for Lynch and Manheim. Did you agree with those marks?
