‘Riverdale,’ ‘The Greatest Showman,’ ‘Shadowhunters’ and more win big at Teen Choice Awards 2018

The 20th Annual Teen Choice Awards were presented on Sunday night, August 12, during a ceremony on FOX hosted by Nick Cannon and Lele Pons. It was a good night for “Riverdale,” “The Greatest Showman,” “Shadowhunters” and more when surfboards were handed out. Check out the complete list of winners here.

“Riverdale” led the Teen Choice nominations with 12 bids, and just like last year it achieved a clean sweep. It prevailed in all nine of its categories, losing only to itself in races where it was nominated twice. It claimed Choice TV Drama for the second year in a row. Cole Sprouse won Choice TV Drama Actor, Choice TV Ship (with Lili Reinhart), Choice Liplock (also with Reinhart) and Choice Male Hottie. Reinhart additionally won Choice TV Drama Actress. Vanessa Morgan took Choice Breakout TV Star and Choice Scene Stealer. Madelaine Petsch had the Choice Hissy Fit. And Mark Consuelos was the Choice TV Villain.

“The Greatest Showman” also had a banner evening. Early in the night Zac Efron was announced as Choice Movie Drama Actor for the blockbuster musical, at which point it was revealed that the film had also prevailed for Choice Drama Movie, Choice Movie Ship (Efron and Zendaya) and Choice Collaboration (Efron and Zendaya for “Rewrite the Stars”).

“Shadowhunters” also won two top awards, despite the show’s cancellation by Freeform in June after three seasons. Its final dozen episodes will air in 2019, but until then the show can ride off on its pair of Teen Choice surfboards for Choice TV Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show and Choice TV Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actor for Matthew Daddario. It upset “Stranger Things” in the top race, but the Netflix series nevertheless won Choice TV Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actress for Millie Bobby Brown.

Other big winners on Sunday night included K-pop sensation BTS (Choice International Artist and Choice Fandom), “The Flash” (Choice TV Action Show and Choice TV Action Actor for Grant Gustin), “Love, Simon” (Choice Comedy Movie and Choice Breakout Movie Star for Nick Robinson), former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson (Choice Male Artist) and former Fifth Harmony star Lauren Jauregui (Choice Female Hottie and Choice Electronic/Dance Song for “All Night”), among many others.
