Thandie Newton (‘Westworld’) Emmy episode revealed for Best Drama Supporting Actress (Exclusive)

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Thandie Newton is entering the “Westworld” episode “Akane No Mai” as her Emmy submission for Best Drama Supporting Actress. This installment aired May 20 and was the fifth episode of the second season for the HBO show.

In this segment, Westworld host Maeve (Newton) is captured and taken into Shogun World. She is warned that this fictional place is even more extreme than her own. Many of the hosts have doppelgangers there, including Maeve by the geisha Akane, who kills a local emissary. Maeve convinces her to escape into the underground network. Akane’s daughter Sakura is killed, so she in turn kills the shogun murderer.

Newton is a returning nominee for this Emmy category. For the 2018 ceremony, she is up against reigning champ Ann Dowd along with “The Handmaid’s Tale” co-stars Alexis Bledel and Yvonne Strahovski. Others in the category are returning nominee Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”), Lena Headey (“Game of Thrones”), plus first-timer Vanessa Kirby (“The Crown”).
