Tuesday night on “The Voice,” Jorge Eduardo and Amber Sauer performed Hailee Steinfeld and Grey feat. Zedd‘s “Starving” for Team Kelly Clarkson during the second battle round episode of Season 14. They threw the audience a curve ball by incorporating some Spanish into the song, but Kelly ultimately chose to save Jorge, thereby eliminating Amber from the reality TV singing competition. “This was my dumbest move by far,” readily admitted Kelly. “I know that y’all are different performers. I did not know [Jorge] played an instrument as well, which was cool that you totally brought that into play. And Amber rose to the challenge of singing in Spanish. I can’t lose if I pick one of you, but I just lose because I wish I could steal one of you. I’m going with my gut on this since I’m curious of what will happen if I pick this next person.” Finally, Kelly revealed, “The winner of this battle is Jorge.”
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger Denton Davidson commented, “Let the battle begin! Jorge kicked the song off showing off a consistent falsetto while playing guitar. After the first verse, the paired harmonized nicely before Amber took control. She’s definitely got a powerful voice but I’m not sure I would choose this song for her. It is more in Jorge’s wheelhouse. Amber got a couple of powerful notes in as she strutted around the stage. She had an advantage there, as Jorge was held back with the guitar. I would say this was a pretty even battle!”
