Monday night on NBC, 21-year-old Jackie Foster sang Pink‘s “What About Us” during the blind auditions of “The Voice” Season 14. The Boston, Massachusetts resident is the lead singer of a rock band who’s now trying out a solo career. Two coaches — Kelly Clarkson and Alicia Keys — turned their chairs around for Jackie, and she ultimately chose to be on Team Kelly. Can Jackie make it all the way to the Season 14 live shows? “No, ma’am!” Kelly yelled after Alicia pushed her button at the last second. “I’d go with who believes in me the most and turned around first,” she told Jackie. “You wailed. Your range is insane. Just so much depth to your voice, and that’s what I’ve been waiting to turn my chair around for people. Somebody that shows me the versatility in their voice, where I can throw any song at them and they’ll be like, I got it. I want someone that confident and I’m just so glad you’re on my team.”
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger John Benutty commented, “She’s been singing her entire life, including musical theater at a very young age. Taking on Pink‘s ‘What About Us,’ Jackie caught the attention of the coaches from the very beginning with her clarity, smooth texture and control over the big chorus. Kelly was the first to hit her button, but in the last moments Blake teased Alicia into hitting her button as well.”
