Tuesday night on NBC, 29-year-old Jaron Strom sang The Drifters and Ben E. King‘s “This Magic Moment” during the blind auditions of “The Voice” Season 14. The Shelby, North Carolina native is a former cheerleader who now brands himself as a web designer by day and a singer/dancer by night. Only one coach — Blake Shelton — turned his chair around for Jaron, putting him automatically on Team Blake. Can Jaron make it all the way to the Season 14 live shows? “We’re meant to be together!” Blake shouted after Jaron did a happy dance on the stage. “Listen man, I knew from the second you started singing that I was into it, but you kept taking it to the next level. There’s just a quality to your voice that I think’s endearing and drew me in. I was like, this guy does not need to be going home. He’s gonna be staying here. I’m lucky. It means everything to me.”
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger Denton Davidson wrote, “Today [Jaron’s] singing ‘This Magic Moment,’ a song that is an interesting contrast to his contemporary look. He has a good voice for the lead singer of a boy band, not sure if he could be a solo star. Eventually, just Blake turned his chair and seems excited by the young energy of his newest team member.”
