Monday night on NBC, 30-year-old Justin Kilgore sang Chris Young‘s “Tomorrow” during the blind auditions of “The Voice” Season 14. Justin closed out the season premiere, proving that producers were banking on the Texas country singer to strike a chord with fans. All four coaches — new judge Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton — turned their chairs around for Justin, but he ultimately went with Clarkson. Can Justin make it all the way to the Season 14 live shows? Watch “The Voice” blind audition performance video above.
One of Justin’s biggest singing inspirations is Reba McEntire, which gave Clarkson the edge because McEntire is her mother-in-law. “Do you know Reba McEntire?” Clarkson asked the other coaches while doing a “drop it like it’s hot” dance. “Her grandchildren are my children, I’m just sayin’. I’ll call her. This is gonna be pathetic if you don’t pick me.”
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger Denton Davidson commented, “This is the country voice the coaches have been waiting! He has a low, buttery tone. And we have our first four-chair turn! Tired of seeing Blake rake in all the top country singers, Alicia used her one and only Block in hopes of getting Justin for herself. But she still has to contend with Adam and Kelly. After he let the coaches know his favorite singer is Kelly’s mother-in-law, Reba McEntire, things look bleak for Alicia. After a fierce debate from the coaches, Justin chose to join Team Kelly. Alicia didn’t seem too torn up about it and looked satisfied just to stick it to Blake.”
