Monday night on NBC, 21-year-old Kelsea Johnson sang Meghan Trainor feat. John Legend‘s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” during the blind auditions of “The Voice” Season 14. The Newark, Delaware native chose the song as a way of honoring her deceased grandfather. Three coaches — Alicia Keys, Adam Levine and new judge Kelly Clarkson — turned their chairs around for Kelsea, but she ultimately went with Keys. Can Kelsea make it all the way to the Season 14 live shows? Watch “The Voice” blind audition performance video above.
“You have a gift and you have a reason why were given that gift,” declared Keys after finally getting a word in between Levine and Clarkson. In trying to convince Kelsea to join her team, Keys reminded her, “I have won this show. I plan to win it again. I’m a beast, I’m a monster, I don’t stop. Right now I am in the studio with [Season 12 winner] Chris Blue plannin’ his plan. I am dedicated to what happens. I believe we can win ‘The Voice’ together.”
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger Denton Davidson noted, “She’s performing ‘Like I’m Gonna Lose You’ and has a round, full tone. She looks like a star wearing a floral pantsuit and rocking a 1980s Whitney Houston hairstyle. This girl is likable! Her upper register isn’t the strongest I’ve heard, but she has potential.”
