Monday night on NBC, 25-year-old Miya Bass sang Julia Michaels‘ “Issues” during the blind auditions of “The Voice” Season 14. The Queens, New York resident stands out as the only aspiring music artist in her family of NYPD workers. Only one coach — Adam Levine — turned their chair around for Miya, putting her automatically on Team Adam. Can Miya make it all the way to the Season 14 live shows? “If you pulled me over as a cop with that hair, I’d be like, I am not messing with this lady, she is badass,” Adam joked about her wild pink hair. As for why he picked her, Adam told Miya, “Look, that’s a great song. You happen to be doing a song by an artist that just worked with, that I think is an absolute genius, Julia Michaels. You were sangin’, and then I just turned around and then I heard you kind of get inside your head a little bit. You know what? I’m glad you did. If it did deter anybody at all, that’s a good thing for me. You are super, super dope!”
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger John Benutty summarized, “Her audition of ‘Issues’ won Adam over first and despite a huge moment toward the end of the song none of the other judges turned their chairs. That means it’s another successful pick-up for Team Adam.”
