Tuesday night on “The Voice,” 24-year-old Sharane Calister sang Ed Sheeran‘s “Make It Rain” during the final episode of the Season 14 blind auditions. The Des Moines, Iowa resident is a gospel singer with an incredibly soulful voice. Two coaches — Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson — turned their chairs around for Sharane, and she ultimately chose to be on Team Alicia. Can Sharane make it all the way to the Season 14 live shows? “That was so powerful,” Alicia told Genesis after Kelly joked that she was tired of losing artists to Team Alicia. “Your voice sounded like perfection to me,” Alicia added. “The low notes were so passionate and genuine. And then when you went high it was like, ‘Bang!’ Whatever your journey has been has absolutely led you to be able to share that type of performance.”
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger Denton Davidson wrote, “Once she reaches the chorus, Sharane lets the vocals really fly and Alicia slammed down her button while simultaneously egging Kelly on to do the same. Alicia must be feeling confident this season if she’s trying to help Kelly out. Kelly said she is weary from losing to Alicia time and time again and feels broken, but Sharane is apparently a fan! But alas, Alicia was just playing with Kelly like a cat toying around with a mouse. Sharane chose to complete Team Alicia.”
