Monday night on “The Voice,” Britton Buchanan and Dallas Caroline represented Team Alicia Keys during the third and final knockout round episode of Season 14. Britton sang Billy Joel‘s “New York State of Mind,” while Dallas took on Rascal Flatts‘ “Bless the Broken Road.” After both artists performed Alicia chose to advance Britton to the next round, thereby eliminating Dallas from the reality TV singing competition. Alicia addressed both of her artists, stating, “Dallas, you talked about being stable at the mic and really catching your energy, your breath, your space and then starting to move around. You did a beautiful job, I was really glad you conquered that, absolutely. And Britton, you too. I mean, you wanted to try something new. That’s the beginning of how you get better and better and get more confident. And so I’m really proud of both of you for doing that.”
When it was finally time to make her decision, Alicia announced, “The winner of this knockout is Britton.” That put an end to Dallas’ journey on “The Voice.”
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger John Benutty declared, “I think starting out on the keys gives Britton a foundation of confidence that once he stepped away with the mic that he was commanding the stage like a seasoned performer. Vocally, he sounds mature for his age, but lacks the depth that it would take to be dynamic week to week.”
