Which artist will win “The Voice” Season 14? Could it be someone from Team Blake Shelton, who is hoping for an unprecedented seventh coaching championship? That’s the question we debate in our lively new video (watch above) in advance of next week’s live playoffs starting on Monday. Managing editor Chris Beachum hosts a slugfest between contributing writers John Benutty and Denton Davidson.
The Emmy-winning NBC reality TV show now has the Top 24 artists ready to compete for the championship. Each of this season’s coaches — Blake, Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys and Adam Levine — have narrowed down their teams to six singers apiece. A whopping 12 singers will be eliminated by the end of next Wednesday’s show (three from each team).
For the video above, our discussion and debate about Team Blake begins at the 18:15 mark for the 30-minute chat:
Blake has participated as a coach for all 14 seasons of “The Voice,” winning six titles so far including Season 13 champ Chloe Kohanski. Currently, Team Blake is the most diverse in the competition, which is rare for the coach who typically has a slew of country singers. Currently on his team of six, Blake has just one country artist in Spensha Baker. There’s also rockers Pryor Baird and WILKES, gospel singer Gary Edwards, teenage crooner Austin Giorgio and soul singer Kyla Jade.
John boldly predicts that although Austin lost his knockout round to Spensha (Blake then saved him), the throwback pop singer will prove charismatic enough to win over viewers at home and be voted into the Top 12. Denton’s long shot prediction is that Blake will use his final save to show loyalty to Kyla, advancing the big-voiced diva who took a chance in choosing him as her coach.
Forced to choose which two artists will be voted through on Team Blake, John’s prediction is that Spensha is for sure making it and then Austin will probably pull in enough votes to squeak by. Between the other four left standing, John says Blake will most likely play it safe by choosing Pryor for the final slot, but admits WILKES could occupy the same space.
Denton believes a different path could lead to the same results. He is adamant that “Pryor is the type of singer that always gets voted through. I think it will be Pryor and Spensha or Pryor and Kyla. Then either Spensha or Kyla will be saved. But if it were up to me I’d pick Austin.”
