Tuesday night on “The Voice,” D.R. King from Team Kelly Clarkson and Rayshun LaMarr from Team Adam Levine were named America’s bottom two artists in the live Top 12 results episode. Both singers were given the chance to sing for America’s instant save, with D.R. choosing to perform The Temptations‘ “Papa Was a Rolling Stone.” After the performance America voted live to send Rayshun through to next week’s Top 11, thereby eliminating D.R. from the reality TV competition. Watch D.R.’s final “The Voice” performance video above.
Kelly admitted she was “puzzled” that D.R. didn’t earn America’s vote this week, saying he had the “sickest range” of anyone in the competition. Back in the blind auditions this Strongsville, Ohio resident performed “Believer” and caused two coaches to turn their chairs: Kelly and Blake Shelton. In later rounds he took on such notable tunes as “Sign of the Times,” “(I Know) I’m Losing You,” “Home” and “All on My Mind.”
On Monday’s performance episode D.R. performed “White Flag” and received nothing but raves from the coaches, including from Kelly who said she’d been a fan since she turned for him in the blinds. Apparently America didn’t see the same thing in D.R., as his rendition of the song didn’t even crack the Top 200 songs on iTunes.
In his recap of “The Voice” results show our live-blogger Denton Davidson summarized, “He sounds gritty and powerful as he belts his way though the song but I feel like he always forgets the melody. Kelly is puzzled why D.R. is in the bottom two and admits she was not even concerned about her team tonight. She pleas for the audience to give her a birthday gift and save D.R.”
