On the May 1 live results show of “The Voice,” the bottom two vote getters among the Top 11 artists were, as we predicted, Sharane Calister and Christiana Danielle from Teams Adam Levine and Alicia Keys respectively. Each had to sing one more song to try and win votes cast by viewers via Twitter. Calister ended up losing the popular vote and was eliminated. Was this the right decision? Vote in our poll below and sound off in the comments section.
Calister was up first and tackled the 2008 song “If I Were a Boy,” which was a top 10 hit for Beyonce. As our live blogger Denton Davidson noted, “It’s typically a wise choice to sing a ballad like this and Sharane is able to show off her big belting range. Unfortunately, she seems to veer off key at times and her runs seem a little all over the place. It actually seems like she might be suffering from some vocal strain, I’m not sure she’s in full voice.”
Danielle tackled “A Thousand Years,” the Christina Perri song from the first film in the “Twlight” franchise. For Denton, “Christiana has so much star quality it would be a shame to see her go home this early. This performance felt more passion-filled than Sharane’s but I can’t say it was vocal perfection either. “
Those watching the show live in the Eastern and Central time zones knew when to vote via Twitter. Fans of either artist in the rest of the country had to rely on social media if they wanted to weigh in with their pick, albeit without having seen the performances.
