Get ready for a whole new chapter of “The Walking Dead” when the show debuts its first post-Andrew Lincoln episode on Sunday, November 11. With Rick Grimes’ loved ones believing that he died in the bridge explosion, we jump forward a whopping six years and see that they’ve all moved on with their lives. Watch AMC’s preview trailer above for Season 9, Episode 6, titled “Who Are You Now?” in which we catch a glimpse of Rick’s now 10-year-old daughter Judith (Cailey Fleming).
Last week’s episode ended with Judith coming to the rescue of a group of strangers who were struggling to fend off several walkers. As they became surrounded and things looked bleak, Judith fired kill-shots from the nearby woods and took out the walkers one by one. When one of the strangers, Magna (Nadia Hilker), asked Judith what her name was she placed the iconic sheriff’s hat on her head and confidently replied, “Judith. Judith Grimes.”
In the promo for “Who Are You Now?” Judith is seen calmly playing with a toy doll as she references “the strangers we brought here yesterday.” Even though Judith is only 10, she clearly holds power within the community thanks to her lineage. Of course, it’s long been suspected that Judith isn’t Rick’s biological daughter at all and that she was actually the product of Shane (Jon Bernthal) and Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies), but that doesn’t stop her from embracing the name Grimes.
Elsewhere in the preview trailer, Michonne (Danai Gurira) is heard whispering, “I haven’t given up and I never will,” as she creeps around a dark corner. Daryl (Norman Reedus) declares, “There’s a storm coming,” while wearing his trusty crossbow on his back. Carol (Melissa McBride), now donning long white hair, is in full warrior mode as she aims her bow and arrow and shouts, “Drop it!” And Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) asks, “If we went further out, think what we might find. What else might be out there?”
Perhaps the biggest reveal in the clip package is that the walkers are starting to evolve. One walker clearly rasps, “Where are they?” and another hoard is spotted “just milling around” in a field. If the walkers are in fact evolving into something stronger and smarter, then our heroes are sure in for a surprise when “The Walking Dead” airs November 11 on AMC.
