Don’t worry, Tom Bergeron doesn’t think we’ll have a four-week ‘Dancing with the Stars’ season again

Your prayers have been answered: There (probably) won’t be another four-week “Dancing with the Stars” season again, according to host Tom Bergeron.

“Don’t think you’ll ever see a 4 week season again. Our Fall season will be a return to spray-tanned sanity. OK, maybe not sanity, but a normal-sized season,” Bergeron tweeted Tuesday in response to a fan expressing dismay at the upcoming “Dancing with the Stars: Juniors” spin-off following “this hiccup” of the four-week all-athletes edition.

The four-week installment was ordered to accommodate ABC’s acquisition of “American Idol,” but many fans balked at the short run, which doesn’t give contestants the chance to improve or for viewers to get to know them, in addition to the multiple eliminations every week. The semifinal featured a triple elimination to get down to a final three. (“Juniors,” which was announced last May, will be pre-taped and last 10 weeks on Sundays this fall, airing alongside a regular season of OG “Dancing” on Mondays.)

SEE Could Tonya Harding make the ‘Dancing with the Stars: Athletes’ final two — and win! — based on these telling stats?

Bergeron was also not a fan of the compressed timeline and brutal cuts. “Eliminating half the cast in one fell swoop is something I hope I never have to do again,” he tweeted.

Responding to another fan, the Emmy winner also chalked up the four-week edition to the 13-year-old series experimenting with new formats to keep itself fresh. It calls to mind a failed “experiment” of another reality series: the family edition of “The Amazing Race,” which fans loathed and host Phil Keoghan has openly discussed as being a mistake.

“All shows, particularly those that defy the odds and enter their 2nd decade, evolve and change,” Bergeron wrote. “Sometimes the changes work, sometimes they don’t. Just know that, believe it or not, our goal is to celebrate our past as we build for our future.”

Dancing with the Stars: Athletes” airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
