Which aspiring chef failed to impress the judges this week in Season 15 of Bravo’s “Top Chef”? In Thursday’s ninth episode the seven chefs still in the competition cooked up fun dishes for Denver Broncos superfans. According to Gold Derby’s “Top Chef” predictions, Adrienne Cheatham had the best odds of being eliminated this week, but were we correct?

Below, check out our minute-by-minute “Top Chef” recap of Season 15, Episode 9, titled “Bronco Brouhaha,” to find out what happened Thursday night. Then be sure to sound off in the comments section about your favorite chefs, which dishes from the episode looked the tastiest and who you think can go the distance to win the title of “Top Chef.”

8:59 p.m. – In last week’s episode we said goodbye — again — to Claudette Zepeda-Wilkins. Claudette was not happy to be eliminated a second time this season, but who can blame her? The remaining seven chefs still in the running for this season’s prize are Adrienne, Fatima Ali, Joseph Flamm, Joe Sasto, Bruce Kalman, Christopher Scott and Carrie Baird. Who will be asked to turn in their knives next? Let’s find out.

9:03 p.m. – For this week’s Quickfire challenge the chefs are introduced to guest judge David Kinch who will help decide which 30-minute dish using edible flowers will win, but also decide which three losing chefs will compete again in a Sudden Death cook-off with that loser going home immediately. In addition, immunity is now off the table for the rest of the season.

9:12 p.m. – The favorite dishes of the Quickfire were Fatima’s meat with flower as a rub and Carrie’s fancy toast with lavender. For being well-seasoned and balanced, Carrie’s toast won! The ones that missed the mark were Joseph’s roasted radishes, Christopher’s bass and scallop tartare and Joe’s stuffed squash blossom.

9:14 p.m. – For the Sudden Death cook-off, Tom Colicchio entered the kitchen to help judge, with baskets of cauliflower in tow. For the challenge, the guys had to create a dish where cauliflower was being used in place of another item.

9:15 p.m. – Joe went for buffalo cauliflower (as opposed to chicken), Christopher made caponata, using cauliflower instead of eggplant and Joseph tried risotto (substituting the rice). Tom did not mince words when he said that he was disappointed in all three dishes, but chose Joe’s as his least favorite. David agreed, but chose Joseph’s as his least favorite. To break the tie, Padma Lakshmi went with Joseph which meant that despite two back to back challenge wins, he was asked to pack his knives and go.

9:25 p.m. – Afterward, Adam Perry Lang arrived to introduce the main challenge, a team-up with the Denver Broncos for a tailgate party. In three teams of two, the chefs would have to create a great Super Bowl plate for 300 tailgating fans. As winner of the Quickfire, Carrie got to choose Christopher as her partner and then selected the other teams: Adrienne and Joe as one team and Fatima and Bruce as the other.

9:30 p.m. – For the dishes, Carrie and Christopher went with poutine, though instead of the classic cheese curd they used nacho cheese, Adrienne and Joe made ribs, despite the tight time restriction, and Fatima and Bruce cooked sirloin with nachos as a side.

9:43 p.m. – On first taste, the poutine was a hit with the crowd, but Fatima’s nachos and Joe and Adrienne’s fried mac-n-cheese both fumbled. The ribs came out perfectly tender and while the judges like the sirloin they weren’t sure if it was cohesive with the nachos. Overall, none of the three teams scored an undeniable touchdown with the panel.

9:49 p.m. – At Judges’ Table, Christopher and Carrie were declared the clear winners for doing the best at elevating the tailgate experience with their dish. As winners they scored tickets to this year’s Super Bowl (that’s this Sunday)!

9:50 p.m. – Bruce and Fatima were told that their dish would have been better if they’d joined the steak with the nachos instead of having two components. The judges really came down hard on Joe and Adrienne for the choice to fry their mac-n-cheese because to do so meant it had to be perfect and it wasn’t. In the end, Fatima’s nachos and Joe’s heavy hand in the mac-n-cheese meant that they were in the bottom two.

9:57 p.m. – After barely escaping elimination during the Sudden Death cook-off, Joe managed to squeak by once again when the judges eliminated Fatima instead. She’ll head to Last Chance Kitchen with her buddy Joseph where they’ll compete for one spot to re-enter the competition.
