8:59 p.m. – In last week’s 11th episode Joe won his fourth elimination challenge of the season, while Christopher Scott was sent packing because the judges weren’t impressed with his dish (crispy black pepper quail with corn pudding, butternut squash, maple and bacon cornbread). Whose dreams will go up in flames tonight?

9:03 p.m. – The final four head to a ranch in the Rocky Mountains and meet the Voltaggio brothers, former competitors on the show, with Padma Lakshmi for their Quickfire Challenge. For this challenge the chefs will be cooking with “Rocky Mountain oysters,” bull testicles. But to make it a little harder, they have to prepare them two ways in their dish. The winner will earn an advantage in the Elimination Challenge.

9:08 p.m. – Joe prepared them fried and then pureed them with white beans, Adrienne made dashi and then topped her dish with fried ones as well, Joseph also paired a fried version with a puree, and Carrie went with a pate and a fried version. The three judges acknowledged that it was a very difficult challenge, but pointed out that Joseph failed on the fried aspect of his dish and Carrie’s dish wasn’t as balanced as it could have been. Adrienne and Joe had their favorite dishes.

9:14 p.m. – In the end, the winner is Joe! It’s his first Quickfire win!

9:16 p.m. – Before learning about the Elimination Challenge, the chefs head up-mountain to find their family members awaiting their arrival–Adrienne’s mother, Joseph’s grandmother, Carrie’s mother and Joe’s dad. To celebrate, the loved ones prepared a meal for the entire group–a gumbo, rigatoni and meatballs, pigskin and pig’s feet lasagna, and beef stroganoff.

9:21 p.m. – As one would expect, the four dishes prepared by the loved ones is to be used as inspiration for the chefs to update the dish and show how they’ve evolved as chefs throughout their lives. For winning the Quickfire, Joe gets an extra 30 minutes of prep time for his dish. Adrienne will get the gumbo, Joe the pig lasagna, Carrie the stroganoff and Joseph the rigatoni.

9:37 p.m. – With only an hour and a half to cook (Joe with two hours), the chefs feel the pressure of one of the last challenges of the season. Adrienne’s biggest challenge is building a flavorful gumbo in such a short amount of time while Carrie struggles getting the right texture on the dough for her planned ravioli.

9:41 p.m. – Joe is the first to present–pig’s feet rotolo inspired from the lasagna. The judges consider his dish a perfect take on the spirit of the challenge and agree that the execution was great. Carrie’s second to serve–buffalo sausage ravioli based on the beef stroganoff. The judges think her take on the stroganoff is creative and tastes great.

9:43 p.m. – Adrienne is third, presenting crab leg and shrimp inspired by the gumbo. The judges understand and appreciate how Adrienne took the components of gumbo apart and let each of them shine in their own way. Surprisingly, they find a lot of flavor in the dish!

9:48 p.m. – Joseph is last to present his agnolotti inspired by the rigatoni. The judges love the flavor of the dish and see the work he did building layers of flavor. Overall, it sounds like all four chefs impressed the judges with their dishes and it’s going to be a really tough call to eliminate one of them! I don’t think I heard a flaw for any of the dishes!

9:51 p.m. – At Judges’ Table, Padma says she had the greatest food of the entire season in these dishes, but that there was one clear winner: Adrienne! This is her first Elimination Challenge win and she’ll be moving on to the final three!

9:52 p.m. – With the other three, Padma made it clear that the judges think there are no bottoms this week because they loved all three of their dishes. In order to find someone to eliminate, the judges begin scouring for small mistakes in the dishes.

9:58 p.m. – The tough decision is… Carrie! Sounds like it came down to not handling the sauce in a way that would have elevated the dish. She was so strong all season so I’m sad to see her go!
