Michael Alvarado and Carissa Alvarado, otherwise known as folk pop duo Us The Duo, graced the “America’s Got Talent” stage during the second audition episode of Season 13. This married couple from Claremont, CA wowed “AGT” judges Simon Cowell and Heidi Klum with their original song “No Matter Where You Are,” but Howie Mandel wasn’t impressed. The final judge, Mel B, declared she was “on the fence,” meaning it all came down to her decision.
In the end Us The Duo sailed through to the next round after Mel B, Simon and Heidi all gave them “yes” votes. Watch the “Americas Got Talent” performance video above and then read the judges’ comments below.
Heidi: “It made me all like mushy and gushy inside because you two are so cute and in love. I can see the sparks are flying back and forth. I think you have a hit right there.”
Howie: “You’re an adorable couple and everything. For me that song seemed a little coffee house. I gotta be honest with you. I like you, [but] I didn’t respond to the song.”
Mel B: “There’s always a risk to do an original. I like the vibe of it but I feel like you need to just give us that extra something. I’m just trying to figure it out because we have a lot of acts that are very, very talented. So that’s where I’m a bit kind of on the fence.”
Simon: “Well, I don’t agree. I love the chorus on the song. I like the fact you were playing the drums. The fact that you did something original makes you stand out. We’re gonna remember you. This was a really good audition.
