VMA performers announced: Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes and Logic added to lineup for 2018 MTV Video Music Awards

MTV has announced that Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes and Logic featuring Ryan Tedder will be performing at the 2018 Video Music Awards on August 20. MTV previously announced that Jennifer Lopez will also be performing at the event to coincide with her receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for her body of work.

Grande will perform her latest single “God is a Woman,” which is the second single from her upcoming album “Sweetener,” which is scheduled for release on August 17, three days before the VMAs. In addition to performing, Grande has five VMA nominations, including Video of the Year for her previous single and video “No Tears Left to Cry.” This is her first time nominated in the top category, but she has been nominated 13 times before, winning just once: Best Pop Video for “Problem” featuring Iggy Azalea (2014).

Mendes will be performing “In My Blood,” which was the first single from his self-titled third studio album that dropped on May 25. The video for “In My Blood” earned Mendes three VMA noms: Best Pop Video, Best Direction and Best Cinematography. He has yet to win a Moonman. His first ever nomination came just last year, when he was up for Best Pop Video (“Treat You Better”) and Song of the Summer (“There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back”).

Logic will debut his new single “One Day.” He previously made an impact at the VMAs last year when he won Best Fight Against the System for “Black SpiderMan,” which he shared with all of the other nominees. Following the murder of Heather Heyer at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, just days before the VMAs ceremony, MTV decided to award Best Fight Against the System to all of the nominees. That night Logic also performed his suicide-awareness anthem “1-800-273-8255” with Alessia Cara and Khalid. Now the video for “1-800” is nominated for Best Video with a Message and Best Collaboration.

Additional performers will be announced in the coming days as the VMAs approach. Who are you most excited to see perform? And who do you think will win top honors?
