“The Handmaid’s Tale” was scooping up trophies left and right until it went 0-2 at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The drought will be short-lived if our latest predictions prove to be correct: The Hulu dystopian drama has a leading 1/10 odds to win Best New Series at Sunday’s ceremony.
Way back in second place is HBO’s “The Deuce” (28/1 odds), followed by three Netflix series, “American Vandal” (33/1 odds), “GLOW” (33/1 odds) and “Ozark” (80/1 odds).
“The Handmaid’s Tale” won the drama writing Emmy in September en route to its Best Drama Series win. It did not compete against any of its WGA rivals there because those four shows premiered after the Emmy eligibility period.
“The Handmaid’s Tale” has since picked up series wins at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice and Producers Guild Awards. At the latter, it defeated “Big Little Lies,” which was shuttered to drama following its Season 2 renewal in December. The show was widely predicted to win drama ensemble and drama actress for Elisabeth Moss at SAG, but the cast of “This Is Us” and Claire Foy (“The Crown”) claimed the respective prizes instead.
This isn’t “The Handmaid’s Tale”’s only WGA nomination either: It’s also up for Best Drama Series, where it’s currently in the lead as well.
