The ballroom dance duo of Denys and Antonina, known as DNA, returned to “World of Dance” on Tuesday night for “The Qualifiers 6.” “It’s been an incredible journey to be on that stage. It’s our second season, and we are so happy and grateful to be back,” said Antonina in their web exclusive confessional. Watch them discuss their triumphant comeback above, and watch their qualifying routine at the bottom of this post.
DNA previously competed on “World of Dance” last summer in season one. They made it through the qualifying round, but were knocked out during the single-elimination “Duels” round after Denys took a spill during their routine. “I was actually freaking out stepping on that stage a second time. There was so much pressure,” Denys admitted about their redemption dance. “But then a few minutes before the performance I got focused and concentrated on what I had to do.”
“I love to see people who were amazing last year come back and be even more amazing this year,” said judge Jennifer Lopez about their scorching routine. She also noted that Denys packed on some extra muscle after last year’s disappointment. “I had to buy dumbbells after last season,” he told the judges.
“What I admire is when you take responsibility … It was amazing,” added judge Derek Hough about their return performance. Hough and Lopez scored them 89, while Ne-Yo gave them 85 for an average of 87.7, which was more than enough to send them through to “The Duels” for the second time.
Not only was that one of the three highest scores of the night, it was also DNA’s highest score yet on “World of Dance,” beating the 86 they earned for their season-one qualifier, and the 80.3 they got for their disappointing season-one duel.
