“This move doesn’t really have a name because I made it up myself, but you’ll see it in one of my performances,” says “World of Dance” standout Vivian Ruiz, who demonstrates one of the tricks she’ll be showing off in one of her performances. Watch it above in a special online exclusive video from the NBC competition series
Her “move of the week” is an especially acrobatic maneuver in which she does a spin while raising one leg over her head and threading the other arm through it. She slows it down to show viewers how we can do it ourselves, and it’s kind of her if she thinks a significant portion of the viewing audience has the training or flexibility to pull it off. I might literally pull my leg right off if I dared to try it.
The 16-year-old clearly has talent beyond her years. She performed for the judges during the July 10 episode of “World of Dance,” “The Qualifiers 6,” in which she had to score an average of 80 or higher to advance to the next round of the competition. She achieved that goal, receiving 83 from Ne-Yo, 84 from Jennifer Lopez, and 82 from Derek Hough for an average of 83.
Her routine to “You Don’t Do It for Me Anymore” by Demi Lovato was inspired by heartbreak: her boyfriend broke up with her via text message and then showed up on Instagram mere days later with another girl — another dancer, no less. Will she continue that theme in her next performance? Might I suggest as accompaniment “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” by Taylor Swift, or perhaps selections from the “Kill Bill” soundtrack?
