“The Qualifiers” are almost over on season two of “World of Dance.” July 24 is the eighth and final week for dancers to prove their mettle to judges Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough and Ne-Yo, and NBC has released a special sneak peek of one of those performances. Junior Division dancer Victoria Caban performs a fusion of contemporary and flamenco dance set to Rihanna‘s “Te Amo.” Watch her above.
For these eight weeks of qualifying rounds the performers have only had to average 80 points or above to advance to the next round, and every week almost every performance that has aired has reached that threshold. Is Caban one of them? The sneak peek video doesn’t actually show us the judges comments or scores, but we do see their reactions, and Lopez and Hough look especially impressed by her intensity and interpretation of the music.
If she does make it through this round, can she keep up with the other contestants who have qualified for the Junior Division so far like Charity and Andres and Eva Igo? We might find out sooner rather than later. The July 24 “Qualifiers” will be immediately followed on July 25 by the first round of “The Duels,” which is a head-to-head single-elimination round in which the contestants in each division face off one-on-one.
The good news for Caban is that she’s sure to stand out. In a Junior field with multiple contemporary, ballroom, and hip-hop dancers, her unique flamenco moves give the judges a taste of something different. Might that even be enough for her to win the world title and the $1 million prize at the end of the season?
