Comedy duo Yumbo Dump made a name for themselves on “America’s Got Talent” for their unique ability to make noises with their bodies. But when they returned to the “AGT” stage on Tuesday during the Quarterfinals 2 episode, judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Mel B were less than enthusiastic. In fact, they even pressed their red X’s for the Japanese performers. Only Howie Mandel gave a standing ovation following their “dolphin love story” scene. Do YOU think Yumbo Dump will advance to the Semifinals? Watch the “Americas Got Talent” performance video above and read the judges’ comments below.
Simon: “I’d like to take back my X, please. I would. I thought the last part of that act was beautiful. It was a love story. I understood it. I love dolphins. It was one of the most touching moments I’ve had on one of these shows, so I apologize.”
Howie: “This is not only funny and it’s not only great. This act is important. It’s about our environment, it’s about weather, it’s about sea life, it’s about ziplocking. So many messages all in one thing and it’s beautiful and touching and emotional. They gotta vote. So far this is the most important.”
Mel: “Can I just say that I was saying to Howie earlier, as soon as I saw the dolphins, I want to take my X back. So I will remove my X also. Because the dolphins nailed it for me. The dolphins nailed it.”
Heidi: “No, I’m not taking mine back. It wasn’t exiting to me. I was actually really excited to see you guys again today because I really like you guys and you really made me laugh in the past. But this is the live show and I feel like you didn’t step it up.”
During his “AGT” live blog, our recapper John Benutty summarized, “The comedy act Yumbo Dump returned to the show with another performance of sound effects using their bellies, much to Simon’s horror. Tonight they recreated the sounds of a typhoon (that one earned a red X from Mel), a zip tie (that one earned red X’s from both Simon and Heidi) and a ‘dolphin love story’ (that one earned a meek round of cheers from the audience and actually got a laugh out of Mel as well as a standing ovation from Howie). Simon called the final part of the act ‘beautiful’ and took back his red X (as did Mel eventually), but Howie was the biggest supporter of the act, calling them ‘touching and emotional.’ Heidi refused to take her own red X back because despite coming into the night excited to see them she didn’t think they stepped up their act for the live shows.”
