Predict the 2019 Daytime Emmy nominations now: Will ‘Days of Our Lives’ defend its title as Best Drama Series?

In 2018Days of Our Liveswon its fourth Daytime Emmy for Best Drama Series, tying it with “As the World Turns” as the third most awarded show in the category’s history. If it wins again it will stand alone as the third biggest champ. But the long-running NBC soap has never won twice in a row. How do you think this contest will shake out? You can now make your predictions in eight drama series categories here in our predictions center, including the top prize.

The nominees for Best Drama will likely be no mystery. Since 2014 there have only been four soaps left on the air to compete for the top prize, and every year since those four have all been nominated: “Days,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “General Hospital” and “The Young and the Restless.” But the win has changed hands repeatedly in recent years. Since these awards are decided by blue ribbon panels viewing sample episodes “Days” can’t just count on momentum from last year’s win to carry it to another victory.

“GH” is the biggest winner of all time with 13 victories, the most recent of which were back-to-back prizes in 2016 and 2017. For years “Y&R” has been playing catch-up, and to date daytime’s top-rated soap has won a total of nine times, most recently in 2014 and 2015. “Y&R” has more pre-nominations this year than any other soap, so the CBS serial is hoping to finally crack double digits in 2019.

The pre-nominations were announced on Thursday, January 24. Those include the 10 nominees in every acting category who now advance to the blue ribbon round, where judges will view sample performance reels to determine the final nominees and winners. “Y&R” has 21 acting citations, followed closely by “GH” (20) and “Days” (19). “B&B” trails with 13. Let us know who you think will make the final cut when the nominations are announced on Wednesday, March 20.
