“Green Book” is just ahead to win Best Film Comedy/Musical at the Golden Globes on Sunday according to our pool of experts drawn from journalists who cover the Hollywood awards beat year-round. As of this writing 10 of our 18 Experts are forecasting a victory for Peter Farrelly‘s charmer set in the segregated south of the early 1960s.
Those lined up in support of “Green Book,” which has five nominations in all, are: Thelma Adams (Gold Derby), Edward Douglas (Weekend Warrior), Joyce Eng (Gold Derby), Bonnie Fuller (Hollywood Life), Tariq Khan (Fox TV), Wilson Morales (Black Film), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby), Christopher Rosen (TVGuide.com), Adnan Virk (ESPN) and Susan Wloszczyna (Gold Derby).
Six Experts are predicting Yorgos Lanthimos‘”The Favourite,” which also has five bids, to pull off the win: Erik Davis (Fandango), Alicia Malone (Turner Classic Movies), Jack Mathews (Gold Derby), Michael Musto (NewNowNext), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) and Brian Truitt (USA Today).
And two tip four-time nominee “Mary Poppins Returns” for an upset: Susan King (Gold Derby) and Sasha Stone (Awards Daily).
None of our experts are forecasting a win for “Vice,” despite this political satire leading all films with six nominations. Indeed, we expect Adam McKay‘s biopic of Dick Cheney to leave the Beverly Hilton empty-handed. Likewise for the fifth nominee, “Crazy Rich Asians.”
Conversely “Green Book” will win two other Golden Globes for leading man Viggo Mortensen and supporting player Mahershala Ali. Likewise, “The Favourite” will claim two Golden Globes as well for the star turn by Olivia Colman and in the combined screenplay race.
