2019 Grammys behind the scenes: Lady Gaga won so many she dropped one

The 2019 Grammys telecast lasted almost four hours, but somehow there were moments we didn’t see on TV. The recording academy has released a video of some of the candid behind-the-scenes moments, including a brief scare where Lady Gaga dropped one of her awards (watch above).

Lady Gaga prevailed three times on Sunday night: Best Pop Solo Performance (“Joanne”), Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“Shallow” with Bradley Cooper) and Best Visual Media Song (“Shallow”). That matches her all-time best haul in a single year. She also took home three prizes in 2011 when she was awarded Best Female Pop Vocal (“Bad Romance”), Best Pop Album (“The Fame Monster”) and Best Music Video (“Bad Romance”), so those trophies are bound to be hard to juggle.

It’s traditional for the winners of multiple awards to pose with their handfuls (or armfuls) of trophies — you can also see four-time winner Kacey Musgraves in the video gathering her own prizes in her arms — but it turned out to be more than a handful for Lady Gaga. If one of her awards was dented, maybe that’ll be the one she gives to Cooper.

The behind-the-scenes video also shows overwhelmed moments for other winners, like Dua Lipa being addressed as the Best New Artist champ — “It’s crazy when you say it,” she says to her interviewer, and she’s audibly overjoyed when holding her two awards in each hand. In addition to Best New Artist, she also claimed Best Dance Recording for “Electricity” with Silk City, Mark Ronson and Diplo.

See plenty more celebratory moments above with Cardi B, composer Ludwig Goransson (“Black Panther” and “This is America”), H.E.R. and more.
