The day before Oscar nominations balloting began on January 7 we heard from the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. with their picks of the year when the Golden Globes winners were revealed. On Sunday, Jan. 13, it is the turn of another group of journalists, the Broadcast Film Critics Assn., who will hold the 24th annual Critics’ Choice Awards.
These awards are renowned as one of the best barometers for predicting the Oscars. Over their 23-year history the BFCA has previewed 14 Best Picture Oscar winners as well as 18 Best Director, 16 Best Actor, 13 Best Actress, 13 Supporting Actor and 16 Supporting Actress champs.
All of the guilds, save the sound editors and visual effects artists announced their nominees before or during voting for the Academy Awards. Those two groups don’t reveal their rosters until after the end of Oscar nominations balloting on Monday, January 14.
Below, we detail these key dates.
Note: Winners events are in gold while nomination announcements are italicized.
