2019 Tony Awards: ‘Hadestown’ will win 9 Tonys, ‘The Ferryman’ to take 6

“Hadestown” will win dominate the Tony Awards on Sunday (June 9), winning a whopping nine awards, including the coveted prize of Best Musical. On the play side of the aisle, “The Ferryman” will collect six Tonys, including Best Play and for scene stealer Fionnula Flanagan. (See the full list of predicted Tony Awards winners.)

Only two other new tuners, “The Cher Show” and “Tootsie,” will take home Tonys. The former will prevail for Stephanie J. Block‘s riveting portrayal of the music icon and for Bob Mackie‘s costumes, which recreate her signature looks. And the latter will win for Santino Fontana‘s reinterpretation of a role made famous by Dustin Hoffman and the updating of the Oscar-nominated script.

The lead acting awards for plays will go to a pair of veterans. The multi-hyphenate Elaine May will win her first Tony for her heartbreaking performance in “The Waverly Gallery” while Emmy champ Bryan Cranston will take home his second for his spin on the iconic character in “Network” that won an Oscar for Peter Finch.

The innovative restaging of Rodgers and Hammerstein‘s landmark “Oklahoma!” will win Best Musical Revival while the latest production of Arthur Miller‘s breakthrough “All My Sons” will be named Best Play Revival.
