The National Board of Review announces its winners on Dec. 3. Last year, this collection of film lovers foresaw the Best Picture Oscar win by “Green Book” and the Best Supporting Actress victory of Regina King (“If Beale Street Could Talk”). However, the NBR also showered “A Star is Born” with three prizes: Best Director (Bradley Cooper), Best Actress (Lady Gaga) and Best Supporting Actor (Sam Elliott).
Absent from its Top 10 were three eventual Oscar winners: “BlacKkKlansman,” “The Favourite” and “Vice.” Two years ago, the NBR didn’t include the eventual Best Picture winner, “The Shape of Water,” in its Top 10 (also MIA were “Darkest Hour” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” which accounted for three of the four winners for acting at the Oscars.)
Among this year’s other precursor awards, the Golden Globes will be handed out two days before the Jan. 7 deadline for Oscar nomination ballots. The BAFTA Awards announces its nominations that day as do the directors and producers.
Below, we detail all the key dates.
