During Monday’s third battle round episode of “The Voice” Season 16, Adam Levine paired up Jimmy Mowery and Kalvin Jarvis for an R&B sing-off to Usher‘s “U Got It Bad” (watch above). Adam had a difficult time choosing which artist to advance to next week’s Live Cross Battles and who to send home, but he ultimately went with Kalvin because he was the more “consistent” artist. Before Jimmy could walk off the stage, John Legend slammed his hand down on his “Steal” button to keep the young artist in the competition.
“First of all, I’m just kind of over the moon,” Adam declared after watching his two artists go toe-to-toe with the User classic. “The coolest thing is when you catch a vibe in rehearsal and you guys work as hard as you worked, all that translates when the moment arrives. I’m just so proud of the both of you guys. You really stuck to it and you can tell how much you guys get along. To me that’s what makes the best music.”
When it finally time to make the big decision, Adam hesitated before declaring, “I really like you guys. I really like you both. This sucks. This hurts. All right. The winner of this battle is Kalvin.” Could Kalvin be the next winner of “The Voice” for Team Adam Levine?
Just as Jimmy was about to say his goodbyes, John made the bold move of stealing him for his own team. “Jimmy I turned around for in the blinds,” John reminded us. “I think he has a great voice and great chops. I think we’re gonna have fun working together.”
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the battle: “Throughout the performance, John, Kelly and Blake were all zoned in wishing that either of these guys were on their team. It was by far one of the best battles of the season, earning a standing O from the coaches.”
