Adam Rippon is definitely Team Tom Bergeron when it comes to Sean Spicer being in the “Dancing with the Stars” cast.
“I had Tonya Harding on my cast … but this cast is a little bit more extreme,” Rippon told “USA Today” while promoting his new memoir “Beautiful on the Outside.”
The Olympic bronze medalist, who won the “Athletes” season with Jenna Johnson, called the former White House press secretary a “f—ing liar.” During brief but very memorable stint as President Donald Trump‘s mouthpiece, Spicer lied about everything from the size of Trump’s inauguration crowd to insisting that Adolf Hitler didn’t use chemical weapons.
“I know he was just doing his job, but he lied every single day,” Rippon said. “Sean Spicer’s a f—ing liar.”
The openly gay figure skater, who famously turned down a meeting with Vice President Mike Pence before the 2018 Winter Olympics, is also concerned this might open the door for other former Trump officials to do the show. “I would not want to see Sarah Huckabee Sanders on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ either,” he said. “It’s such a low bar.”
Rippon joins numerous fans and celebrities, including Bergeron, in criticizing Spicer’s casting. But Spicer himself has downplayed the backlash, saying he wants the show to be a “politics-free zone.”
He also hasn’t exactly stunned on the dance floor yet, failing to earn higher than a 16 after three weeks. But he also hasn’t hit the bottom two either.
