‘AGT’ winner Shin Lim returns to defend his crown in ‘Champions,’ but first he’s doing a little street magic in Sin City [WATCH]

Close-up magician Shin Lim, the most recent winner of NBC’s reality TV show “America’s Got Talent,” is returning to defend his crown in the spinoff series “AGT: Champions.” Premiering January 7 on the peacock network, Shin joins the likes of former “AGT” winners Bianca Ryan (Season 1 singer), Kenichi Ebina (Season 8 dancer), Paul Zerdin (Season 10 ventriloquist) and Darci Lynne Farmer (Season 12 ventriloquist) for the chance of winning this so-called “Olympics of talent.” But first, Shin is keeping busy performing a little street magic on Las Vegas Blvd (watch above).

In the “AGT” street magic video, Shin walks up to tourists outside the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and has them look through a deck of playing cards to make sure they’re all there, asking with a wink, “Do you trust me?” Shin shuffles the cards and has a woman remove one card from the deck. He places the card in her palm and then has it magically transform into the joker that’s in his own hand — how’d he do that?!

For Shin’s next trick, he asks a little boy to pick a random card and he makes it magically jump from the middle of the deck to the top. As the crowd oohs and aahs, he teases, “The interesting thing is I’m just moving the ink from place to place. That’s really all I’m doing. I can take the ink from the five and I can actually make it vanish like that.” He turns the card completely white with no markings on it whatsoever.

How will Shin fare against other magic acts from across the “Got Talent” landscape? Some of the returning magicians/mentalists include Issy Simpson (“Britain’s Got Talent” Season 11), Piff the Magic Dragon (“AGT” Season 10), Jon Dorenbos (“AGT” Season 11), The Clairvoyants (“AGT” Season 11) and Colin Cloud (“AGT” Season 12). The series premiere of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” airs January 7 on NBC.
