Laine Hardy won season 17 of “American Idol” over Alejandro Aranda and Madison VanDenburg on Sunday, May 19. Are you happy with this result? Did Laine deserve to win? Vote in our poll below and then sound off in our comments section with your thoughts on the second season of the ABC revival as well as your opinion of host Ryan Seacrest and judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.
After Seacrest announced that Laine had won this sophomore edition of the ABC version of “American Idol,” he performed his winner’s single, “Flame.” While that country flavored track sounds like a winner, Laine was not expected to take the title.
Alejandro had been the frontrunner all season long, ever since his audition video went viral back in early March. This singer/songwriter performed an original song, “Out Loud,” back then and had all three judges singing his praises. But in the end, Laine proved too formidable a challenger, battling it to the Top 2 after Madison was eliminated halfway through the three-hour live finale.
Here’s a reminder of the three songs that each of the Top 3 sang on the season 17 finale.
Alejandro Aranda (Ponoma, CA): “Tonight” (Original)
