‘America’s Got Talent’ dog act Lukas and Falco takes on ‘The Greatest Showman’ in Judge Cuts [WATCH]

America’s Got Talent” dog act Lukas and Falco returned during the first Judge Cuts episode to perform in front of Simon Cowell, Julianne Hough, Gabrielle Union, Howie Mandel and guest judge Brad Paisley. As a refresher, the last time this canine duo took the stage Simon raved about their “personality” and added, “I think this is the best dog act we have this year.” Did things go according to plan for their second appearance? Watch the “AGT” performance video above and read some of the judges’ comments below.

“Everyone here already has impressed the judges once, so it’s really going to be hard,” 22-year-old Lukas explained in his pre-performance package. “Falco is very special. He likes more humans than other dogs. He’s a little bit charming with all the girls and I’m like, hello, what about me?” Lukas admitted that he gets “sad” when he thinks about Falco ultimately retiring from showbiz, but he also wants to “enjoy” their last shows together.

For their performance Lukas and Falco took on “This Is Me” from “The Greatest Showman,” one of Simon’s favorite movies. “No pressure,” Simon instructed them as they were the very first act of this second stage of the reality TV show. The act included several fun tricks including Falco walking backwards, taking off Lukas’ hat, rolling out the red carpet and doing cartwheels over Lukas’ body.

Simon gave Lukas and Falco a rousing standing ovation, though the other judges remained planted firmly in their seats. Brad remarked, “It never hurts to tailor your whole act to Simon.” Howie joked, “It seemed like you did more tricks. It feels like Falco brought his pet Lukas.” Gabrielle noted, “I think you actually got a lot better from the first audition.” Julianne declared, “You have something really special and your essence comes through.” And Simon recalled, “Why not make ‘The Greatest Showman 2’ with dogs? I was drunk but I still thought it!”

In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about the performance: “Kicking things off are Lukas & Falco, a dog act hoping to charm their way to the quarter-finals. Falco’s nearly 10 years old and reaching retirement, so Lukas would like the Australian Shepherd to go out with a bang. Lukas is dressed like the ringmaster of a circus and they’re doing a play on ‘The Greatest Showman.’ As ‘This is Me’ plays, Falco shows off a variety of tricks including some impressive stick work, barrel jumping, and rolling out his own red carpet. Lukas even shows off a few of his own tricks like juggling on top of a large rubber ball. The judges are blown away, but I’ll be honest, I thought it was just okay. I’m about as big of a dog lover as one could be, but I just didn’t see anything I haven’t seen before.”
